Style is always a subject that gets people talking. Everyone has a style, no matter how hard they may try to say no. The thing is however, many of us indulge in style that isn’t very good for us or the style industry. Sustainable style is something that has become the norm now, or at least, is trying very hard to. The reason for this is there is so much waste in this industry. We don’t take care to find out how our clothes are made, what kinds of things are in our makeup and if any of this is even right? Maybe this is why there have been a few trends that have shaken the normal way we do things, and we’re going to name them for you.
Natural materials
Synthetic material costs a lot to make. They may not cost you that much, but they cost the places that make them. It’s not a secret that something that is not natural, will burn more fossil fuels to make. You can’t just make a t-shirt out of nowhere, it has to be made out of various materials. The most common are synthetics made from various fibers. They have to be manufactured in a very polluting environment and machines that use up a lot of fuel themselves. Instead of synthetics, you should focus on natural materials, such as cotton. Cotton is grown from a plant not from an animal, so it’s even more economical than wool. Next time you shop for t-shirts, tops and other items, make sure they are 100% cotton and have been made sustainably.
Our makeup
Makeup is one of those areas that has always been under the spotlight. Not many of us know how it’s made or what goes into it. But just like many of our medicines, it has chemicals that we haven’t even heard of. So use makeup products that have been made using natural materials. At the very least, look for a makeup product that doesn’t have as many chemicals. That can be your starting point. Another is reusable false eyelashes. You don’t need to wear them once or twice and then throw them away. They are faux silk eyelashes, cruelty-free and they are also vegan. This way you are using eyelashes that are not only going to last you longer, look great but you know, you haven’t bought something that has been made unsustainably.
Spread the word
Among your friends, you should try to have conversations about styles that are sustainable. It’s not just something that would help you and your own conscience, but it could help spread the word about better alternatives. Sometimes word of mouth is the best way to get a message across. We can all like and share posts that are positive about cruelty-free products, but actually encouraging each other to use them and shun the others is how you can make progress.
Style has become sustainable, but it just needs the world to catch up. You can do your part by buying these kinds of products and spread the word about them.
