I thought I’d do an in depth review of the Naturtint 2 in 1 Colour Protecting Shampoo and Conditioner Bar for Colour Treated Hair.

When you think of shampoo bars, what are your first thoughts? They don’t clean your hair? Why would you use a bar of soap to clean your hair? They are messy to use?

Reducing my footprint of the earth is something I have been looking to do recently and Shampoo and Conditioner bars have been something I had my eye on. So when I got the chance to try the Naturtint 2 in 1 Colour Protecting Shampoo and Conditioner Bar for Colour Treated Hair I just had to write about my experience and how I found it!

Naturtint is a brand I have used before, when my hair was brown, I purchased the hair dye and really enjoyed it.  If I decided to go to a natural colour again, I will certainly use Naturtint again.

So Naturtint is a company that value fewer chemicals in ou products and switching to natural options. Due to this, there are fewer chemicals in the products they create and give wonderfully productive products for us to use, whilst keeping the number of chemicals at a minimum.

After coming out with a successful range of hair dyes (I wish there was a purple) they created hair care which are perfect for a range of people such as for colour treated hair, like I used.

They are not expensive which is wonderful!

The Naturtint 2 in 1 Colour Protecting Shampoo and Conditioner Bar for Colour Treated Hair is a natural shampoo and conditioner bar to help consumers use less plastic and have affordable hair care. This will last a lot longer than a general bottle of shampoo and conditioner.

My hair prior to use

I have colour treated hair – in fact, my hair is purple. So keeping the colour is really important and the hair products I am using at the moment strips the colour out quite badly.

My hair condition is greasy roots and dry ends. Which is a nightmare as I am using many different products to treat the different areas. Having combination hair is really hard to get the right products to work.

Also along with being colour treated, finding the right products for my hair is hard. Either make the greasiness worse or the ends drier.

I have a sensitive scalp, flaky scalp and products can set me off with contact dermatitis. So tend to stick to the same products where I can to stop any issues with my scalp.

This was one thing I considered when using Naturtint 2 in 1 Colour Protecting Shampoo and Conditioner Bar for Colour Treated Hair as I wanted to use something more natural for my sensitive scalp.

Initial thoughts

I enjoy the ‘less is more’ packaging. The box is cardboard and can be recycled. I keep the shampoo bar on a soap dish to stop it sticking to the bath.

Now the scent is wonderful, it has a beautiful lemon verbena style scent, it does say lemon however I found it was more on the side of lemon verbena.

Looking at the bar, it looks nice to me. Green in colour and a leaf is imprinted into the design with Naturtint at the bottom.

I just can’t get over the scent of the Naturtint 2 in 1 Colour Protecting Shampoo and Conditioner Bar for Colour Treated Hair.

It looks very easy to use and store, I have a soap dish ready (I have been testing quite a few shampoo bars of late!

Initial use

I wet the bar and rubbed it between my hands, I found doing it this way took a lot longer to get a good lather going! So instead, I decided to rub it directly on my wet hair and this was the best way for me to get the wonderful lather I needed.

All I could smell was the beautiful scent of the shampoo bar. It’s really uplifting and perfect for using in the morning. Really zesty!

I gave my head a good massage and scrub, working the product into my scalp and ends. Left it on for a minute then rinsed off.

Now I am one that does a double cleanse, so went in for a second and was even more impressed as this time, there was even more of a lather!

After rinsing, my hair was impressively clean. Squeaky clean! I felt there was no residue left on my hair and I applied a mask to the ends because they are incredibly dry.

I’d noticed also that there was no colour runoff. This was the 4th time I washed my hair since dying and usually, I am washing the colour out every wash. But this was not the case. Was this a fluke?

I dried and styled my hair as usual and mt hair was super shiny and sleek.

After a week of use

After a week of using the shampoo and conditioner bar, my scalp was looking loads better. I did not expect this at all. I was actually really surprised that I no longer had any flakes on my scalp.

The ends of my hair were still dry, but not as frizzy. I did try once without the shampoo bar, but sadly my ends are too frazzled. However, once I get my hair cut, I won’t need to use the mask.

Roots were no longer greasy after 2 days after washing, I could go longer which is ideally what I want. So there was no need for me to use dry shampoo which I hate using so much. But normally after 2 days, my hair is really greasy.

I think the formula really helped with the oil production on my scalp and the longer I use it, the longer I can go without washing.

There was also no build-up of products on my hair either, so my hair was softer, smoother and more natural. Usually, when I use other products, I get a build-up and makes my hair look dull after some time.

Let’s get into the colour! So by now on week 4 of colour with my usual shampoo, the colour is noticeably gone and looking a strange brown/red/purple shade. Very washed out and lacklustre.

However, since I swapped to this bar, my hair kept the vibrancy! I was very impressed and couldn’t believe how my hair is keeping the colour. I’ve dyed my hair this colour many times over the years and never managed to retain the purple, so tend to get bored and go back to brown.

This is wonderful as now I can go longer without having to top the dye up!

Long term use

Colour has lasted even longer than usual, I am still stunned how this Naturtint shampoo and conditioner bar has left my colour looking vibrant! It’s not as bright as the first day I dyed it, but it has retained the purple colour and looks amazing!

Going to the roots of my hair, I noticed I could go 3/4 days now without the grease and could get away without washing my hair for longer. This was something I really needed to do as I don’t want to wash my hair so much!

The ends of my hair are looking healthier and now no longer need a hair mask. I stopped using the hair mask the last couple of washes and didn’t need to use it as much, once every 3/4 washes.

My hair is looking much healthier and can’t believe how this little bar of wonder has kept my colour looking fabulous! Naturtint is a wonderful brand and highly recommend!

This is an easy to store bar but I do recommend to wipe off any excess bubbles and pop it on a soap dish, this will stop it from sticking to the bath or place where you store it. Keep it by the bath so the steam will keep it damp and stop it from fully drying out which some soaps can do.

Below is my hair after a few weeks of use, showing the lustre of the purple with no top up!

Final thoughts

Naturtint is a brand I would honestly recommend if you were looking for a natural shampoo and conditioner bar.

They also have other options as well as Colour Treated Hair such as Weak and Thinning Hair and Dry and Damaged Hair.

As I have both, I am going to give these a try too! They sound wonderful and have different scents and colours to the bars.
