Oracle cards are a new addition to my tarot path and I had previously read Moonology by Yasmin Boland and really enjoyed this so I had to conduct my very own Moonology Oracle Cards Review.
The Moonology oracle cards are in conjunction with the book and were curated by the same author, Yasmin Bowland. Who created Moonology and also the Moonology Diary 2022.
The artwork is by Nyx Rowan, a freelance artist and illustrator who does a lot of watercolour type artwork so this fits well within the infrastructure of the cards.
This beautiful deck is encompassing the energy of the moon into your everyday life by using these cards which have different phases, including the moon being in the astrological signs.
Each card also gives valuable information surrounding the card you have pulled.
Included with the deck is a book that gives information on the cards. Also the phases of the moon, information about the moon and also some layouts to use.
You can use the Moonology By Yasmin Boland book to accompany this oracle set too!
Moonology Oracle Cards
It’s a really great deck and I am going to get more into this below.
Moonology Oracle Cards Review
Packaging, quality and book review
Firstly the cards arrived in a thick, card box which houses the cards and booklet. Admittedly, I prefer these boxes to keep the cards safe, rather than using velvet bags. They are just more aesthetically pleasing.
The box is mostly black, giving the impression of a night’s sky with the moon large and full, then trees in white along the bottom of the box, A splattering of stars across the sky. Giving a lovely aesthetic to the packaging.
Inside, the cards are housed very snugly, they are as large as the box so no movement.
What I like is inside the box lid, it states ‘Let the Moon be your guide’. This is a really nice touch to the cards.
Now the card stock is really good, not thin but not thick as I like. However, they have a good reasonable thickness and will hold their shape well after regular use.
The cards are matte and smooth which makes easy shuffling. I don’t like the cards that have a lacquer over as I find the cards stick and struggle to shuffle efficiently and thoroughly.
Nestled under the cards is a book the same size as the cards, nice and think with plenty of information. There is a really nice design, the same as on the box, in colour.
I have to say, the booklet is in black and white and quite small so you are best referring to the cards rather than the pictures of the cards in the booklet. The writing is small, I can read it fine, however, some may struggle with this.
You don’t really need the Moonology Book however I would recommend it because it does really compliment the deck very well!
There is a lovely introduction to the cards, explaining how they work and what the cards are used for. Information about the moon, from wisdom to the phases and meanings of the phases. This gives you information which will come in really useful with using the cards. Also has a lovely explanation of some spreads that you can use with the cards also!
For every card, there is information on the meaning of the card, additional meanings, attunements, then teachings about the phase or sign the phase is in.
Got to admit, I really like how jam-packed this little booklet is and just how through the explanations are.
The size of the cards is a general Oracle size at 5 inch high x 3 1/2 inch wide and just under 1 inch thick.
Review Of The Cards
To start off, the back of the cards are really simple but beautiful and breathtaking.
They are dark blue and black with detailed phases of the moon, all beautiful 8 phases. It’s inspiring how the Moon is accurately detailed and looks stark against the black/blue background.
Turning over the card, each card has a banner along the bottom with a short description of the card and then the moon phase or astrological sign.
Each card is very different in that some have the moon in full with the animal for the astrological sign. Alternatively, they decorated as a beautiful garden in the light of the moon. It really does give the Moonology Oracle Cards a wonderful look to them!
Now there is a distinct theme with the card, which is obviously the moon. But each card has a different representation of the moon with a vastly different background.
For example, the cards in conjunction with astrology have an iconic picture of the star sign. Whilst others have beautiful backgrounds to give you a theme for the phase of the moon.
When you flick through the cards, you can see the cards are interpreted very well with each card’s meaning.
You can also see the moon phase which helps you understand the meanings behind the cards.
The cards are designed to give you advice on a situation, you can opt for a general reading or ask something more specific.
One element I like is also the astrological signs, this can help you understand the meaning behind the particular card and also could point to a person with that sign. It’s the perfect way to interact with the moon with astrological signs.
I really enjoy this deck and it really corresponds well with the Moonology book and they make the perfect complement.
Now I do a lot of reading as it is something I really enjoy, from reading for friends and family, to reading for strangers. Mostly I do it online and adding oracle cards to my tarot card readings has given my readings more meaning and can elaborate further. Perfect to query a specific card also or elaborate further.
Final Thoughts
This is an oracle deck that I am always reaching for. I love the moon anyway but I use this for personal readings for myself and others.
Now I like using it to find out timings for things, by the full moon in Sagitarrius as an example. Or you need to x thing in an eclipse.
I would really like to see this particular deck as tarot cards. I think this would accompany a tarot deck of the same nature really well.
So I thought that the book accurately coincided with the general meanings of each moon phase and astrological sign in that phase very well.
I’ve seen that there is now a Moonology 2021 book which is absolutely fabulous!
Of course, this particular oracle set is a perfect addition and one I continually reach for.
