Did you know that 9/10 people have slightly misaligned or maloccluded teeth? Yes, that means most people don’t have perfect shining smiles.

However, Invisalign can fix those simple problems and make you happier with your teeth. For this method to work correctly, you need to avoid common Invisalign mistakes.

Read on to learn the most common mistakes Invisalign users make.

5 Common Invisalign Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

1. Not Wearing Your Aligners

This may sound like a given, but we must stress the importance of wearing your aligners when you get Invisalign. If you don’t wear your aligners for the recommended amount of time, they won’t work.

If you continue to take out your aligners throughout the day, you won’t have straight teeth as soon as you thought. This is one of the most common Invisalign mistakes even though it seems simple to do.

These aren’t retainers, you don’t only wear them when you go to bed. Get in the habit of having your aligners in almost all of the time. It may feel weird at first, but you’ll get used to it and your teeth will thank you.

2. Eating With Your Aligners

There are only certain times when you should take your aligners out of your mouth. One of those times is when you are eating to avoid small food particles getting trapped inside.

One of the main benefits of Invisalign is that they are invisible! However, if you eat and drink with your aligners, they will become stained and not be as invisible. Important Invisalign mistakes to take note of.

3. Losing Your Aligners

If you follow the first tip, you shouldn’t have a hard time keeping track of your aligners. When you take them out to eat, don’t forget to put them back in.

You might want to consider other options such as the benefits of porcelain veneers instead.

4. Not Keeping Your Aligners Clean

Another one of the common Invisalign mistakes that is often seen is not keeping the aligners clean. Luckily, there are aligner cleaning tools that can make this step easier.

Just like you clean your teeth, you’ll need to clean your aligners. You can talk to your dentist to find out how to thoroughly clean them.

As a general rule, you should not use toothpaste to clean aligners because it can damage them. To keep them in good condition, rinse with water and use a proper aligner cleaning product.

5. Smoking With Aligners

It may be hard to learn how to wear aligners if you are a smoker. Just like food and drink, smoking can stain aligners so you should always take them out when having a smoke.

However, smoking is never recommended when you have Invisalign. It can increase the risk of gum disease and other conditions. If you are an avid smoker, you may want to rethink your decision to get Invisalign.

How to Avoid Common Invisalign Mistakes

Avoiding these common Invisalign mistakes is easy if you keep this guide in mind. Chances are, your dentist has already told you similar things. It’s common to wonder why are your teeth letting down your smile.

As long as you follow the recommendations from your dentist and understand how Invisalign mistakes can affect your teeth, you’ll be on the right track. Avoid these Invisalign mistakes to have perfect teeth in no time!

It made sense when you said that we should ask a dentist how to thoroughly clean the aligners. My daughter may need to get Invisalign braces to fix the crowding of her upper teeth. I’ll use your suggested questions once we find a local dentist that provides Invisalign.
