The Green Witch Tarot Review

The Green Witch Tarot Review

The Green Witch Tarot was the first tarot deck I had seen that called to me right away. But then I thought, well, why not do a Green Witch Tarot review and tell others just how amazing this deck is.

Going back to me for a moment, I am what you may consider as a ‘Green Witch‘ basically rather than having a religion, mine is more a craft. Of course, you can imagine why I fell in love with this deck so easily.

I thought it would be to discuss the tarot deck, the book and then how I resonated with the cards.

The Green Witch Tarot Review – About The Deck

Now this beautiful deck was created by one of my favourite authors, Ann Moura, and the artwork was illustrated by Kiri Østergaard Leonard.

Ann Moura is quite a well-known author in the world of Witchcraft and Wicca. Ann writes books with a whole range of topics from the well known ‘Green Witch’ books and on other things such as Wicca, being a solitary witch and how to protect or look after yourself.

Kiri Østergaard Leonard is a Danish author and artist and creates the most beautiful fantasy style artwork which you can see depicted in the tarot cards.

Both Ann and Kiri worked so well together and curated the most beautiful deck I have ever had. The perfect pair!

Of course, Llewellyn had published The Green Witch Tarot, the largest publisher of tarot cards.

One thing I have to point out about these cards is they are not your typical ‘Rider-Waite’ inspired deck. In fact, they have completely different meanings, especially for the Major Arcana.

For example, 0 is the Greenman and shown as the God of Nature, rather than the ‘Fool’ and the meanings between the 2 cards are completely different.
Number 13 for example, known as the ‘Death’ card is ‘The Lord of the Shadows’ and less of a scary card, signifying change.

So whilst a few cards are similar, they are also completely different at the same time.

The Green Witch Tarot Review – Design

I can not get over how different and beautiful these cares truly are.

The back of The Green Witch cards are stunning and nothing like you see with other tarot decks. Based on a green, wooden door for the background. Then including a beautiful, rose wreath with an added pentagram in the centre.

Design-wise, the cards are more bright and subtle. Looking like they came right out of a fantasy book with beautiful artwork.

At the bottom of each card is a scroll-like banner in green, showing the card number and meaning.

The entire card is filled with the illustration, no boarders to distract the beaut of the card.

So intricately detailed, I wish I could get big prints of a few of the cards and have them around my office.

Quality Of The Packaging and Cards

Quite a thicker card than the Gilded Tarot, these certainly will be more durable in the long run.

No sticking when shuffling and they don’t seem to bend like other cards have done. The remain quite well, but I do keep them in the original box. So having the book on top adds further weight.

Regular tarot card sized, they are easy to use and shuffle. Even with my small hands.

Again, the updated packaging means it comes in a beautiful, thick cardboard box with magnets at the sides. I am really impressed with the updated packaging.

Before it was a thin cardboard box and now it’s really thick with magnetised sides to keep it closed. The updates to The Green Witch packaging are fantastic!

This helps keep the deck safe and stops them from getting ruined.

Also another plus, east to store or show off.

The Green Witch Tarot Review – The Book

I could read this book just because it is worded so wonderfully.

As you read more into the book, you also learn about life as a Green Witch, the Pagan holidays and symbolism.

At the start of the book, you get some really lovely tips on grounding, centering, consecrating, and how to read the tarot. Now, this is what I call a real guide book!

With each card in the Major Arcana, you are given a story and the background of the card. So not only do you get the meanings, as well as a reversed meaning, you are also told a story. This will help you use your cards to tell a story when you read them.

It’s also easier to see the key dates within the Major Arcana just by the meaning of the card. As well as using the scenery and the name of the card.

The Minor Arcana is explained further in detail, giving you easy to understand information about a particular card.

A really, in-depth book that thoroughly gives you the information you need about your cards.

There is illustrations of each card also so you can see the same detail on the card, as well as in the book.

How Did I Get On With The Readings?

The only one issue I have with this deck is that I am unable to read other people with it. It’s almost like it is drawn to me and will only let me read about myself.

I have tried extensively and instead, I am just given readings about me, my path and my beliefs.

So of course, this is my own personal deck that I only use on me and for guidance.

Now I found those days when I really need guidance or an answer to a question, this deck is the best. Straight away, the cards are either throwing ones out for me to see. Otherwise, they are giving me perfect readings, telling me everything is fine. Or I can do this!

Feeling calm and collected when using this deck, it really does help me focus on my life or tasks in hand.

The Green Witch Tarot Review – Final Thoughts

Honestly, if I had to choose one deck and one deck only, I would take this one.

Nothing has resonated with me so much as The Green Witch Tarot and I have never fallen in love with a deck upon first sight.

Usually, I like to think carefully before purchase. However, with this deck, I bought it, loved it and cherished it since.

If you love the fantasy type imagery or you love the Green Witch books or even lifestyle, then The Green Witch Tarot is the one for you.
