We all have one deck that we have for a different reason and this is why I purchased the Tarot In Wonderland deck. I will discuss the desk in my Tarot in Wonderland Review but then about why I chose this.
Now the reason I chose this deck is because of the wacky design about it. I felt this would be good for the moments where I am conflicted or wanted to know about conflict.
They seem to resonate well with the ‘Curiouser and Curiouser’ theme. From there I can find out about situations that are considered confusing or strange.
Probably sounds strange really, but it’s true!
Here we go with the Tarot In Wonderland Review!
Tarot In Wonderland Review – About The Deck
This time we have a tarot deck that is created by Barbara Moore and illustrated by Eugene Smith.
Barbara Moore is a writer who writes a lot of books regarding tarot, as well as curating her own decks. Quite an influential person in the tarot circles, her books are quite popular. The Shadowscapes tarot is another she has written and it’s a wonderful illustrated tarot deck.
Eugene Smith has a clean, modern style of illustration and is a freelance illustrator based in the US.
Again this is published by Llewellyn – The masters of tarot publishing! There are many great decks they have published such as The Green Witch Tarot and Gilded Tarot
It does say that you can discover how to navigate the dreamlike world of ‘Tarot in Wonderland’ and share 2 completely different perspectives of the card.
So other than the usual ‘Rider-Waite’ tarot you may already know, this also gives you more.
But there is more! You can use Alice’s adventures in your readings to give a second look on a situation.
Tarot In Wonderland Review – Design
What I love about this tarot deck is the fun design element incorporating Alice In Wonderland.
Based on the ‘Rider-Waite’ deck, you will see a lot of similarities with the symbolism and concepts, but there is also a twist and a tale to this deck.
The whole cast is in the cards somewhere, from Alice on nearly every card to the Mad Hatter, Humpty Dumpty, Caterpillar, The White Rabbit, The March Hare and many more.
You name it, the character is likely to be in the deck somewhere.
The Tarot In Wonderland cards are colourful, fun but they are not what most would consider ‘cute’ They feel raw with the design as well as very detailed.
They capture the entire theme of ‘Through The Looking Glass’ and it’s just superb.
Tarot In Wonderland Review – Quality
I have to discuss the thickness of these cards, they are slightly thicker than the Green Witch tarot however still easy to hold.
They are your standard tarot card size and easy to hold and shuffle.
I like there is no sticking with this deck so I can use it with no issues at all.
Picture quality is fantastic, they have been printed really well.
Again, like the rest of my decks, the packaging is another card box that is very sturdy, holds the cards in place along with the book, and a magnetised strip to keep the lid down.
It can be stored or shown off.
Tarot In Wonderland Review – The Book
I adore this book! It’s colourful, imaginative and each page as a full-sized picture of the tarot card so you can see the detail even better. In colour too!
The Major Arcana has a story about Alice’s adventures, each card represents a different journey Alice takes, similar to the ‘Fools’ Journey only this time it’s Alice.
Even the Minor Arcana has the story following on from ‘Through The Looking Glass’ which makes the book more fun to read and follow through.
Included is information on how to read the cards and also some details on different spreads.
You can read this just as a book, regardless of reading the tarot. I thoroughly enjoyed the written book. Certainly the best book for tarot yet.
You can easily learn the 2 sides of the card, from the standard ‘Rider-Waite’ to the version from Alice. You will soon enough incorporate this into your readings with ease.
How Were The Readings?
I could not talk about the readings which are unusual for me. In my Tarot In Wonderland review, I really wanted to highlight how the tarot in wonderland deck is different.
Not only do you get your standard tarot version, but you also get much more.
For example, there was a really strange situation going on and I needed clarification. Instantly I pull out this deck, knowing it would tell me what I wanted to know.
A very unusual situation it was, full of lies, strange goings-on.
Through the unusual information provided through Alice, I got to the bottom of it by looking into the situation with a completely different light. We had the answer we needed.
You do need to do quite a bit of reading with this deck as it may make no sense without learning about the deck. The Tarot In Wonderland deck seriously is something out of the ordinary and it is the same with your readings!
I tried a few readings and was slightly confused, but once I had read the book, I understood perfectly.
Now I could read the other side of this deck which the book explained about.
Final Thoughts
This is a deck that I am really resonating with for particular readings.
Now I do prefer to use this for anything out of the ordinary, confusing or difficult. I seem to get a lot of information from the cards during a reading, sometimes a bit too much.
I had no problem with using the cards, they are pretty easy to use once you have the knowledge.
It may not be a deck for everyone, based on the artwork and meanings, but I quite like it.
I do reach for this deck quite a bit and helps me with those difficult, confusing situations. Plus the artwork is truly lovely on The Tarot in Wonderland.
