Dream homes… everyone’s got one. You’ve probably already visualised your perfect space, from the cosy reading nook to the kitchen window that overlooks your lovely garden. But the truth is that finding that perfect home can be a struggle, and what you want might be harder to find than you realised. Don’t worry, though, it is possible to attract the kind of living space you’ve been looking for, and with that in mind, keep reading to find out more.
Get Clear On What You Really Want
The first thing to do is grab a paper and a pen – seriously! Scribbling down exactly what you want when you’re looking for something actually helps because it makes your desires clear and, of course, it helps you to actually spot your dream home when it finally pops up in your searches.
So what is it you want? Do you need loads of natural light? What about an open plan layout? Or do you need plenty of space for your tools, your pets, your kids, or just for you? Whatever it is you want, make sure you write it all down and be as detailed as possible because clarity is so important – if you’re not sure, how are you going to know when you’ve found it?
Be Open To Surprises
One thing that’s important to remember is that your perfect home might not actually be exactly as you’ve visualised it – and that’s totally fine. It might be that when you check out residential options after you’ve decided where you want to live and you know what your budget is, that something entirely new and unexpected comes into play – something you realise is actually what you wanted all along.
So although it’s vital to get an idea of what you want in your head (and on paper, as we’ve said), you’ve also got to be open to surprises, and keep an open mind. For example, you might see a place that’s almost right, but the kitchen isn’t how you imagined it – well, could you change that? Or perhaps the neighbourhood wasn’t originally on your radar, but you’ve found that you really love it and you know it’s the right place for you. That’s why it’s so important to keep your options open and explore before totally committing because the last thing you want is to realise you were so stuck in your ideas that you missed out on something wonderful.
Trust Your Instincts
Something else that’s very important when it comes to finding your ideal home is to trust your instincts. When you walk into a place, you’ll know if it’s the right one for you, but only if you allow your gut to actually tell you – trying to be overly logical and ignoring what you’re feeling means you’re just going to miss out on important details, and you’ll either decide against what would have been the perfect home, or you’ll pick something because it ticks all the boxes but you’ll never actually be comfortable there.
The fact is your instincts are rarely wrong, and even though there will definitely be practicalities to consider, listening to your feelings is going to help hugely to get you in the right place.
