Mascara is something I own many of so you will see a lot of mascara reviews coming up over time. With the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara, I firstly received a sample of this and tested this over a week, then I decided I liked this enough to buy one. Now I own 2 and 3 samples that I got with gift sets. So let’s start off with my Benefit Roller Lash Mascara Review.
When this as released there was massive hype about it and it took me probably about 3 months after release to try it. From there I was hooked and you will see why.
Even now, years later I am still using this but it will never trump ‘They’re Real‘ which I have reviewed separately.
Going into this mascara, I will talk about the product. The claims and was this right?
We all know some brands have a bit of controversy so if there was some about a particular product then I will discuss this.
Alright so let’s get into the review!
Benefit Roller Lash Mascara – The Release
Benefit Roller Lash Mascara released around 4 years ago, there was quite a large marketing campaign around it and many people were talking about it all over social media.
One day reviews started popping up on YouTube and I was curious about the claims of this was much better than ‘They’re Real’. Was it? Well I didn’t think any mascara can top my all faithful ‘They’re Real’ mascara that I love.
I kept watching reviews and reading blogs to get some idea of whether this would be worth a try. Would I be wasting my money?
About 3 months or so later, I received a sample of this and first thing I did was whip my current mascara on and whack this on.
I will talk about this later on in the review.
So let’s talk about how widely received this was…
Amongst YouTubers, this was a firm favourite. All of my favourite YouTubers were using this and one still religiously wears this and claims it is a holy grail.
I don’t see it mentioned as much these days but occasionally I will catch a YouTuber saying it is a product they use off-camera.
I guess this is probably due to the high amount of items they need to review.
Then I started seeing reviews on Facebook groups of how people weren’t keen as the common issue was after a few weeks of use, it started to clump up. This too I will touch on also later on.
Overall, it seems to still be a common favourite and many people really liked this mascara.
Alright so looking at the website and packaging, the claims are:
- Water-Resistant
- 12 hour hold
- Curling
- Lengthening
Benefit Roller Lash Mascara – The Packaging
Now one thing to point out about this was how different the packaging is to the ‘They’re Real’ mascara.
They’re real is sleek and in a gunmetal grey type colour.
However Roller Lash is very different.
The body of the product is black with Roller Lash in cute, pink lettering. With the lid being baby pink in colour and having diamond shapes cut out so it gives this lattice effect.
Opening the mascara gives you a comb-like wand. One side with the curve outwards has longer prongs and on the inward curving side, they are smaller.
This was designed to give ultimate curl when applying.
Now what I have to admit is the brush is the type of brush that I gravitate to and you will see why in my review.
I really like the look of the packaging and will be using the brush for other brands where I loved the mascara but not the wand.
Benefit Roller Lash Mascara – The Review
Application of the mascara is super easy. One swipe and your lashes are coated.
Now with the wand, this separates the lashes so there is no clumping of the lashes at all. I could not believe how well this separated my lashes during use.
This is why I love this particular wand. It’s flexible too so you can manipulate it into areas that are harder to get like the corners of your eyes and lower lashes.
The brush is quite thin in comparison to others and it makes for a more precise application.
As you apply the mascara, it coats your lashes very easily and right away I could see the curl effect. Are my eyes deceiving me? I have the straightest lashes and have to curl them as nothing would curl these babies mascara wise.
The formula is quite thin which means there is no clumping as you apply. Along with the wand, this gives you a perfect curl and lengthen to the lashes.
However, with this being a thinner formula, lashes aren’t thick so need a few coats for that thickening effect.
Doesn’t feel heavy when you wear it, it’s nice and light. Perfect for on the go or can build it up for a wild night.
Throughout the day, I noticed there was no transfer on my lower or upper lid.
I wore just skincare including oily products and the mascara stayed right on there. I also wore full face, BB cream, just concealer and at no point did this transfer.
My lashes look wonderful when wearing this and love the curl it gives them.
Benefit Roller Lash Mascara – Aftermath
Okay so as I had seen the clumping claims, after about 4 months I noticed the mascara did start to dry out a little and clump. I had been using this a couple of times a week so not as religious as others. However I did notice this did start to dry out and look clumpy on the eyes.
But by 3 months I usually start to throw out mascaras because they do get dry, clump up or I just worry about bacteria. Sometimes I get get a few more months out of them, others certainly need binning after a few months.
I had worn this many ways, even fell asleep in my mascara and it did not transfer once. I couldn’t believe it. Awakening with no panda eyes!
This mascara is a very close send to my ultimate favourite and have to say, it is right up there with the best.
The Benefit Roller Lash Mascara retails at around £22 but you can always find a deal on this for around £18.
Worth the money? Yes it really is!
