We’ve all been cooped up for what feels like years, but light dawns on the horizon, and assuming the government’s plans work out, we could all be back out socialising (with appropriate distancing) in the next month or so. Being stuck indoors has meant that we’ve not had to worry about what we look like for quite some time and many people have been stocking up on loungewear, pyjamas and activewear. In the UK, loungewear witnessed a 433% jump in consumer demand in April 2020 and in Australia, the demand for lounge tracksuits, elasticated pants and loose-fitting jumpers has increased exponentially. The demand for the loungewear category has increased by 120% and brands such as ASOS, Pretty Little Thing, Showpo and other niche labels are performing exceedingly well.
As we have been stuck inside with not much to get excited about people have been wanting clothing that is comfortable and functional but also has an element of ‘newness’ so that it gives them something to look forward to and a nice parcel through the door.
With the prospect of (socially distanced) freedom on the horizon, it’s time to get ready to be seen in public again. While you might have to wait a little longer to get your hair done, you can try an at-home hair dye to keep you going; you can do your own manicure and pedicure, pop on some fake tan for a healthy glow and shop online at The Little Green Bag to update your wardrobe so that you can emerge from lockdown like a beautiful butterfly. But what do you need to smarten up for the post-lockdown world and where will you be going where you’ll want to look your best in this post lockdown world?
The main thing is to always be outdoor-ready as it might be a while before we can socialise inside. It’s going to be BBQs, picnics and walks and while good weather isn’t always guaranteed it’s good to be prepared for anything.
A decent pair of sunglasses
You can’t go wrong with a nice pair of sunglasses, if anything they hide tired eyes, they protect your eyes and they can make any outfit look cool. Why not treat yourself to a pair for the car too so that you don’t have to remember to have them with you all the time.
A cool jacket
Think biker jacket or denim jacket; it’s so useful to have a jacket which will go with just about anything. A black leather jacket or a denim jacket can be thrown on over a cute summer’s dress or long frock or can be put with leggings and a t-shirt. They’re probably the most useful thing around.
A big handbag
A handbag that you can fit a jacket, some sun cream, a picnic blanket or a bottle of wine is a very useful item to have with you this summer. A big handbag also looks stylish and even if you don’t fill it, it’s good to have while you’re out and about.
