How to Handle Grief and Work Through Your Changing Emotions

When you’re in the thick of experiencing grief, you will go on a rollercoaster of emotions during each moment of the day. The smallest incident could trigger you and cause you to feel overwhelmed with everything that’s going on around you. When a close loved one has died, it can be very hard to come to terms with and handle the many emotions you might be experiencing. With this in mind, you may want to work through some of these ideas to help you feel in control of your feelings and able to continue with the little things in life. It may take some time to achieve, but you may soon start to see an improvement when you consider these ideas.

Sit With Your Emotions

Now is not the time to brush your emotions aside and build these feelings up inside of yourself. Allowing yourself to sit with these emotions, get uncomfortable and to feel every ounce of sadness, anger and hurt that ripples through your body is a huge stepping stone at this point of the grieving process. Sitting with your emotions is a hugely testing experience, but you can come out of it feeling lighter and more positive about how to navigate forward.

Consider a Sentimental Send Off

When emotions are high it can be very easy to forget about the practical elements that go hand in hand with losing a loved one. Planning a sentimental send off with reputable funeral directors in your local area, may help you to come to terms with your emotions. Although this can be an upsetting process to have to go through, you will have members of staff to guide you through the arrangements so that you can make the most of their special memorial.

Speak to Others Who Feel the Same

When you’re experiencing grief it can feel as though you’re living in your own little world and unburstable bubble that nobody else understands. Although people may not be in your exact circumstance, they may have also experienced a great amount of grief that affected them in the same way as your loved ones’ death has. Finding people in your circle or trusted companions in support groups can help you to share the load and swap stories on how to work through it together. And, if you are not comfortable opening up to others, speaking with a therapist who offers grief counseling san antonio or elsewhere, can provide the guidance and support you need.

Find Joy in the Little Things

It can be very difficult to put a smile on your face and feel happy during your day to day life when your loved one is all you can think about. You may wonder if you’re even allowed to feel happy or joyful because something terrible has just happened to you, but it’s okay to find joy in the little things. Whether you’re pouring yourself a hot cup of tea in the morning or indulging in a new fiction book, you are allowed to find pockets of happiness in your day and still work through the varying stages of grief too.

As your emotions evolve and change over time, you will find your own ways to work through your grief and find rays of positivity along the way.
