Ideas For A Small Wedding – How To Keep A Guest List Down

Getting married in the middle of a pandemic is not a lot of peoples idea of their dream Gothic wedding. Whilst others are looking forward to the excuse of only having a small wedding. I came up with some ideas for a small wedding and also how to keep a guest list down.

The most important day for many, getting married is never easy when preparing for your big day, from the dresses to the photographer. But having a pandemic wedding means you need to take extra precautions for your big day and even consider how you are getting your guest list down.

How To Keep A Guest List Down

Firstly, I wanted to talk about how to keep your guest list down for your big (or small) Goth Wedding day. With a guest list so small, deciding who is going can be a headache for most people anyway, never mind with a small number.

There are some things you could factor, such as children. Some people are opting for a child-free wedding because this takes up the numbers. For me though, I would want children there so I would need to consider kids. The same goes for partners, if you have a lot of people close to you that you want there, you could decide not to invite plus ones. Everyone will understand right now, so don’t panic if you have to go to these lengths.

Invite those that are very close to you and currently in your life. Inviting the next-door neighbour’s ex-wife because it might offend someone in the party isn’t a reason to invite them. It’s your big day and you need to consider the people going, so only invite those you are close to and family also.

When you are hiring help for the big day, you need to consider these in your numbers. Normally you wouldn’t need to, but with only a maximum of 30 at the moment, that is one person down on your big day.

One thing you can consider is having a Wedding Photo Swap where you create an account with a dedicated photo swap website and give access to all of your guests, asking them to take pictures for you on your wedding day. You can also see if anyone in your small group are actually able to take the photographs for you, most people know someone who is good at photography, even if they don’t do it for a career.

Ideas For A Small Wedding

Many people are now opting for smaller ceremonies in places like registry offices as they only hold a small number of guests. Or choosing places that are generally smaller and cheaper so they can get the perfect wedding and have a fantastic time with their loved ones.

Clothing is essential, you need to choose whether you are having a specific colour scheme and want your guests taking part, or it’s a relaxed wedding.

Choosing the right wedding dress or bridesmaid dresses can be hard, Click Here to find out more about some beautiful affordable dresses. As it is small, it might make you want to spend less on the clothing for the day and spend money on other areas. You can choose a Modern Goth Look and not spend a lot of money.

Then you want to decide whether you are having something after, a sit-down meal or party. Keeping in mind that you are still limited to 30 guests.

One thing I would suggest is to arrange something for later on, once lockdown has lifted. A big party where you can invite everyone you wanted to invite. That way you are not feeling like you left loads of people out. It can be really stressful choosing who is and isn’t coming to the main event.

Another thing you could choose is another ceremony here you have someone officiating a wedding but already had the real wedding down. A handfasting for example is a wonderful way to get everyone together.

Because you are keeping it small, you save a lot of money so you can use it for this instead. Just imagine, having a small summer wedding, then having a winter celebration. To me, this would be ideal!

After you have decided on the above, you can consider what you are doing. Remember there is no point in hiring a castle for only a few of you. Save this for another time if you are going to have a second ‘wedding’. Choose a registry office or somewhere small. Save your money for a bigger blowout with everyone around you.

Think about beautiful places you couldn’t normally get married as there is little space, you can now choose these places. Caves, beaches, wherever you can get permission for a wedding and keep it small. Usually, you can get planning for most areas.

Your dream wedding can be relatively small. Keep it simple too. Celebrate later and make the best of the intimacy you have for your wedding. Even think about upcycling if you want to keep the costs as low as possible.

Final thoughts

Weddings are hard enough, but having a smaller wedding can give you a very private wedding and then celebrate with loved ones later on, how you want and when you want.

I hope these ideas for a smaller wedding help you with your Gothic wedding adventures! Check out more of my wedding series.
