5 Ways to Add Value to Your Home

Updating your home is a great way to add value before selling, or inspiration for new ways to spruce up your home.

You don’t have to have a huge budget to make changes to your property. The smallest of changes can make a great impact and increase the value.

Here are 5 simple ways you can add value to your home.

#1 Clean up your garden

A task that is usually put to the bottom of the priority list is gardening. This typically takes more time than it does money, but clearing out weeds, trimming bushes, and even growing (or purchasing) a few new plants can drastically change the look and feel of your outdoor space. This means you can enjoy your garden in the summer, or create a great first impression for buyers, as your front lawn will be the first thing they see.

#2 Convert unused space

You could significantly increase the value of your home with a loft conversion or by converting other spaces. You can convert any dead space including your loft, your garage or shed, or even a room you just use for storage. Not only can this increase the value of your home, but it also gives you an extra space to enjoy. This space can be used as a playroom for kids, a home office, or even a gym space!

#3 Fresh paint

A coat of fresh paint is a simple, cost-effective way to transform the entire property. Over time, walls can get dirty, chipped, and marked showing wear and tear. Fresh paint, whether it is a new colour or to top up the existing colours, can liven the room instantly and be more appealing to buyers.

#4 Freshen up and protect the exterior

The outside of your property is just as important as the inside. From structural issues to damp proofing, freshening up and protecting the exterior of your property can make an impact on the value. Fixing up the exterior, for example, adding fresh paint, clearing gutters, fixing any structural problems can put you (or buyers) at ease. If you are clearing your gutters, you may wish to use a professional service such as Gutter Cleaning Richmond. Clean and clear gutters will make the appearance of your home look great, but also avoid any lasting damage to your home.

You could also go a step further and protect the property from any future damage, making it more appealing to buyers or saving your money in the long run. Use Bitumen paint to prevent damp issues or weatherproof any wooden door and window frames with wood stain.

#5 Finishing touches

The cheapest and simplest task of them all is to go around your property and fix the last cosmetic touches. This can be anything from filling in holes, fixing broken doors or drawers, oiling the squeaky hinges, hanging some paintings, watering your plants, fixing leaky taps, cleaning dirty windows, etc. Make your way around each room and make a list of all the little finishing touches that need completing. Then when you have some time, you can start making your way through the list.

There are many different, cost-effective ways you can add value to your property to sell or to live more comfortably. Small and simple updates can make a huge impact.
