Lo Scarabeo is a publisher who is in my top 3 publishers as they have such a wonderful range of tarot decks and this made me want to give you a Lo Scarabeo Tarot Mucha Review.
I wanted to get into the Tarot Mucha which is a tarot deck which I really love and of course published by Lo Scarabeo.
Now, I came across this tarot deck on a Facebook group where someone was using it for their live and obviously I had to know what deck it was. Then I got on Amazon and purchased it. Why wouldn’t I? It’s gorgeous!
I got it the next day and I instantly fell in love with it and I will get into this further in the review below.
The Lo Scarabeo Tarot Mucha Review
About the deck
This deck is an extraordinary tribute to art nouveau pioneer Alphonse Mucha and is a fresh beauty of the dawning of the twentieth century. A wonderful inspiration to create such a beautiful deck.
The artwork is created by Giulia F. Massaglia and colours by Barbara Nosenzo. With the text in English by Lunnaea Weatherstone and other texts by Massimilanio Filadoro.
The imagery is from at the end of the 19th century when the revolutionary movements had set fire to half of the world, a period of relative calm swept over Europe. The imagery captured the idea that the worst was over and the new era of the century was opening doors for peace and prosperity.
Packaging and quality
The packaging is a little different with the Tarot Mucha as the packaging has an upright style box with a lid that comes off the top, rather being laid down and lifting from the front. I really like this style of packaging and haven’t seen it before.
It’s very thick and the cards fit in there snugly so they will not slide around or become damaged over time. This is something I do become concerned with especially with packaging.
Lo Scarabeo is known for the thin cardboard packaging on occasion so to see a different style of packaging is really refreshing! I like the thin cardboard packaging as, to be honest, I tend to create tarot bags to house my cards.
The print quality on both the packaging and the cards is fantastic, really clear and no issues at all.
Now, getting into the cards, they are quite thick and especially as I have small hands, can be a bit much sometimes to hold, but they are actually perfect! I love thick cards and find ways to shuffle them without impacting me at all which I have done so.
The size of the cards are *ENTER CARD DIMENSIONS* which are a good size for tarot cards but could be a bit too thick for someone with smaller hands.
So, the cards are covered in a glossy layer but it is not a sticky one and the cards glide smoothly when shuffling. Maybe a bit too smoothly as they can end up all over the place as there is no friction.
I’m going to be reviewing the book, but the book is also really good quality too!
About the booklet/companion
Now this booklet/companion is in English (By Lunaea Waterstone) and also in Italian, Spanish, French, Dutch and Russian (by Massimilanio Filadoro).
This is a similar size to the cards and fits in the box very snugly.
The cover on the Tarot Mucha guide book is coated in the same gloss as the cards and has the same colour scheme too.
Now, the quality of the paper inside is amazing, it is a glossy paper with each page having a printed background in a cream stone style aesthetic and then a gold top and bottom border.
You don’t see each card printed in this book which I don’t mind, but you get the odd full card or a part of the card printed throughout the book at random.
Each card has a description and then keywords in an upright position, but no reversed position so it would be up to the reader if they wanted to read these in reverse and how they would interpret the card meanings in a reversed position. Personally, I just read these upright.
You also get a description of the deck, how to read the deck and also some layouts and information on how to use them.
It’s quite an action-packed book and around half of the book in English, then Italian, Spanish and Russian for the second half which has been translated.
Review of The Tarot Mucha
Given the quality of the deck is exceptional, of course, I am going to be giving it a very glowing review.
After seeing someone use this, I felt instantly attracted to it and I wanted it there and then so I ordered on Amazon and got it within 48 hours.
So The Tarot Mucha arrived and I felt the connection right away before I even read through the guide book or flipped through all of the cards.
One fantastic tarot deck that I spent a lot of time going over and reading, focusing on the beautiful artwork on the cards.
Now, the colour scheme is very muted, it’s the art style you imagine from the 19th century and plenty of creams, diluted yellow/orange, browns and muted, watered-down shades. There isn’t a spot of bright colour anywhere.
You have that Art Nouveau feel to it and that is what I really enjoy about this deck, it’s very different from Tarot De Marseilles for example.
Getting into the deck, the only change between the card names from your typical RWS style deck to this, is Page is called Knave and wands is staves and pentacles/coins is discs. Other than that, they are all the same.
The meanings are quite similar but have it’s own twist on it to represent the card iconography.
I’m going to get into how I used the cards below and what I thought about reading with them.
Reading With The Tarot Mucha
I’ve started giving my thoughts on how I find reading certain tarot decks and wanted to include this in my Tarot Mucha review as they were so exceptionally accurate.
So I gave them a cleanse and then spent the day connecting with the deck. I’d read for myself and recorded my findings, then went back a few weeks later and recapped to see whether things came up and lo and behold, they did!
I then deiced to read for others using them, seeing whether they worked for others too and I had found that they too read so well for others.
I’ve enjoyed using them, I was able to shuffle them with ease once I had gotten to grips with the size and found a way to get a good shuffle on with them.
They were coming up with great accuracy and I did enjoy using them. Now, they are a regular deck I reach out to all the time!
Final Thoughts
I knew I would enjoy the Tarot Mucha deck and when I was writing my Tarot Mucha review, I had such good vibes thinking about them so shows I made such a great connection with them.
They are priced really well, I paid around £18 for them. Considering the packaging and cards are well made, as well as the guide book, I would have paid more in all honesty.
