How to Stay Stylish When Pregnant

While on the face of it, styling stylish while pregnant might not be the top of your priority list, there’s a lot to be said for dressing well and looking good while pregnant and the mental boost good fitting clothing can bring you – whether you’re pregnant or not shouldn’t be overlooked. Because when you look good, you feel good, a stylish pregnancy fit can be just what you need to elevate how you feel as your body changes.

In truth, style doesn’t evaporate when you get pregnant; it just looks different — some mornings you wake up and your bump is a completely different shape, other days, no matter what you do, your usual shoes won’t fit your feet.

But the trick isn’t to buy into fashion pieces; it is to invest in key pieces that work with your changing body that you can rely on.

Build A Simple Base Wardrobe

Pregnancy style gets much easier when you strip it back, you don’t need to be hitting the streets like it’s a catwalk every day, but you do need pieces that can grow with you, and just make life easier — you are growing a human being after all.. This means stretch tops, longline vests, leggings that don’t dig in or roll down and soft jumpers or cardigans you can layer. These will be your safety nets, you can build on with other choices.

Once you have these pinned down, you can play around with other choices. An open shirt on top, a bigger cardigan when the temperature goes rogue or a light jacket over your outfit for when you want to feel more put together.

Choose Maternity Pieces That Actually Work Hard

You don’t need to replace every item in your wardrobe with the maternity version, just the one causing the most grief. A pair of over-the-bump jeans that won’t slide down every five minutes. Or a knit you can throw on regardless of how little effort you want to put in that day, or the real workhorse of maternity style: the maternity dress that feels comfortable even when nothing else does.

Choose styles and materials that can work with your body as it shifts through each pregnancy stage: wrapfronts, empire lines, A-line shapes — these won’t argue with your bump and will have your back even if you can’t remember the last time you saw it.

Lean Into Comfort

Pregnancy style is more about leaning into comfort because when you feel comfortable, you instantly look better. You want softness: waistbands that don’t dig in, tops that don’t feel restrictive. But on top of this, it’s also about how you make what you have feel good on your body. Tricks like knotting a loose tee just above a bump give you shape and movement, a belt over a cardigan pins things down to hug your shape and keep you protected, and a blazer sharpens up your comfy leggings and casual tee with ease.

It’s comfort mixed with style and creativity.

Because the perfect pregnancy style is not about buying the latest fashion pieces, it’s about feeling comfortable and making what you have work for you.
