Finding out you are pregnant for the first time be the most overwhelming event. You may have a whole range of emotions, and these can be complicated by whether or not you were expecting this child. Your life will change immediately as you are no longer thinking about just yourself. Everything you eat, wear on your skin – make-up wise, breathe in, in terms of perfume and fragrances goes under scrutiny. You will wonder if you are doing everything you can, and this can cause a lot of stress. However, to help relieve the stress, there are a lot of ways you can prepare for your new arrival, and it is good to focus on these positive changes:

Save as Much as You Can

As soon as you find out you are pregnant, you and your partner should try and save as much money as you can. Every bit you save will give you that little extra financial cushion when the baby comes. Just knowing that you have some savings can help relieve the stress you may well be feeling. You should try and use coupons and download pregnancy apps, some of which offer a lot of freebies. So, do a little research and see what is available.

Begin Stocking up

You are going to need a lot of things for when the baby arrives. There will be ongoing items such as nappies and baby wipes, as well as one-time purchases, such as prams and cots. Take a look at Foryourlittleone for some ideas of what you will need. You can also download a baby checklist. Some of the pregnancy apps will include these to, and begin ticking off the items. The more you can get before the due date, the better you will be. You will also have the time to hunt for bargains. So, remember to check out buy and sell sites online and second-hand stores such as Gumtree.

Your Support Network

You may decide to wait until at least the first trimester is over before telling anyone. But even if you do choose to do this, there is no reason you can’t start getting closer to your support network. If there has been any friction in the past, a baby is a great opportunity for everyone to let bygones be bygones. Most family members will be more than happy to help you with your newborn. And no matter who you are, at times, you are going to need some help, even if it is just someone popping to the ship for you.

Cut Yourself Some Slack

You are bound to worry, but remember that there is no such thing as a perfect person and mother. At times the best of us make mistakes. Learn from them and move on. Don’t dwell on things. It is not worth it. If you feel yourself falling into a negative spiral, focus on the present. Can you hear any birds in the trees? Can you feel your baby’s movements? If you can focus on this, you will find your calm, and you will develop a better bond with the baby too.
