The Light Seers Tarot Review – A Modern Tarot Deck That Is For Today

The Light Seers Tarot showing a few cards and the guide book

I remember seeing the Light Seers Tarot all over the Facebook groups as people had backed this on Kickstarter and although I am a lot of the time very tempted to back them, I tend not to. I’m the one who keeps their fingers and toes crossed that it will be released after either independently or though someone like Hay House or Llewellyn.

It turned out to be a really popular deck and one that came with a touch of controversy when it was released. From bad production to changes between the Kickstarter version and the version released by Hay House. Followed by The Muse Tarot which is such a beautiful deck too.

Generally, I am very impressed with everything I have from Hay House, they are a great publisher and rarely had any problems. Any that I did have, were resolved pretty quickly. So to find I had an issue was worrying at this point. But I will get into this further down. However, do not let the issue discourage you as The Light Seers Tarot deck is worth it. It’s the modern tarot deck you need.

I really wanted to get into the deck and don’t let the issue I had with the deck discourage you from purchasing this deck, that problem has since gone away and we are left with a beautiful deck, but with a couple of things, I personally would change.

Now, let’s get into this, shall we?

The Light Seers Tarot Review – A Modern Tarot Deck That Is For Today

About the deck

The Light Seers tarot is said to be reimagining the traditional tarot and using an array of cultures, people, colours and even general day to day things.

Pretty much everything you can think of will be in this tarot deck in some form.

A tarot deck that tells a story, but also gives you a sense of multi-national coming together throughout the deck and letting you explore what the world has to offer.

You will look at tarot differently as you read through the book and giving you insight into so much that brings you joy, love and hope.

It’s artistic, expressive and will make you see a technicolour life that will make you feel warm inside when you flick through the beautiful cards in the Light Seers Tarot.

Packaging and quality

I really liked the box for this deck, it fit the deck perfectly and had a guide book inside that is the same size as the cards. When it is all condensed and together, I quite like it. Makes it easier to store.

The actual box packaging is a very thick card and good quality, it is a little stiff to open which keeps the cards protected and safe.

Inside the top of the inside of the packaging in the Light Seers Tarot, it is a very light teal shade, looking like smoke/clouds and says ‘And into the grey we follow, like a thousand flickering stars, and there in the sunlight hollow,we lose and find what is ours’.
Then – ‘Dear light and shadow seer, may this deck help you find what is yours. xo Chris-Anne’.

I think that is a really lovely tribute to the deck!

Then on the inside of the bottom, same colour scheme and it has the logo design that is n the back of the tarot cards.

Now, along with the cards is a very thick book, which has 1 full-page (both sides) per tarot card which I enjoy as you get a lot of information per card. It has 186 pages and you can imagine it’s quite a thick book.

A really good quality book that you get that has enough information to read off them, but also small enough that it fits in the packaging perfectly along with the tarot cards.

Touching upon the cards, they are a very matte feeling type of card so they shuffle very easily. There is no sticking together or friction.

I really like how thick and good quality the cards are, overall I am really impressed and think they will last a good while before replacing!

I’ve always had good quality card stock from every release from Hay House so I can’t complain at all. Even with the small blip, that was resolved rather quickly by Hay House.

Light Seer’s Tarot Review

Now it is time to get into the review of The Light Seers Tarot deck. Something I have looked forward to is this deck and the length of time I’d waited to get my hands on it was quite a while. To receive the deck I did, I was a little upset however it was resolved fairly quickly by Hay House and I have since purchased quite a number of tarot and oracle cards since.

So aside from the blip, I wanted to talk about the deck, how it’s quite similar to your standard Rider Waite system and how it has been made into a modern tarot deck for today.

Firstly, there is a complete colour explosion within the deck, from the bright, beautiful cards that are truly inspiring and thought-provoking. You can’t help but feel happy when you look at them.

Invoking a sense of hope, promise and strength. There is just something about this deck that always makes me feel calm and serene. It’s fantastic that a tarot deck can make you feel such a way.

It’s showing a multicultural variety of people, also in an array of religious tones, friends, family and love. I enjoy that the minor arcana also has people in the cards instead of symbols or objects. I’d certainly prefer the array of people that are beautiful, exciting and thought-provoking.

The deck has a more cartoonistic approach and less life-like. I expected

I flicked through the deck to see what subtle changes there were and found the following:

Death is Death/Rebirth which I love. To me – the Death card does mean rebirth so to see this certainly made me like it.

Some cards are not represented in your typical way in The Light Seers Tarot like:

The Tower – usually quite a breathtaking card that makes you think of impending doom, however, this version is beautiful and gives you a sense of not all is so bad, even though the card information is relatively the same as a typical Rider Waite card. It’s almost dampening the impending changes and rug being pulled under your feet feeling.

The Hanged Man – usually depicted as someone hanging by their feet but this deck has them swinging from fabric with a sense of spirituality. I enjoy how this card is depicted and that it shows the true meaning, well in my eyes anyway.

10 of Swords – Usually quite a thought-provoking card and makes you feel anxious. This version has a woman standing watching the birds fly away showing there is hope to something bad happening.

Page of Cups – I love this card, it shows the true meaning of the card, a dreamer and romantic, the floating of the feet shows they have their head in the clouds which is the epitome of this card.

The Hermit – usually it’s quite a dark card and shows a depressed soul, but this one has someone sat at a cliff’s edge, thinking very deeply. Taking a moment away from everything and contemplating things. A true representation of this card.

So as you can see, the cards are poised to be more real-life and less dramatic like we know some of the cards can be especially with Rider Waite based decks.

The Light Seers Tarot is certainly a tarot deck that gives me a lot of confidence, even when the bad things are coming our way.

I wouldn’t say it was a positive deck, oh, not at all! This deck is true, real and raw, but not giving you that depressing tone that some decks can. I’m enjoying using it for my readings and has been a very popular deck all around.

Review of the guide book

I wanted to give a review of the guide book because it is actually a really good book.

It has a thick card cover and the quality of the paper inside is really good. Quite a thick paper and doesn’t seem to be dog eared after use.

Included with the book is a basics on tarot, so if you are new to tarot, this is a good starter deck as the book is really explanatory. Shares how to connect with your cards, how to read your cards and also gives you some tips to use the deck which I really enjoy seeing in my decks.

When it offers explanations of the cards, you get 1 full-page, both sides. So the tarot card is always on the left with the name, number and picture of the tarot card in grey, information about the card both upright and reversed and then a little quote which explains the card.

So upright is called the ‘Light Seer’ and gives you keywords related to this side of the card.

Then reversed is the ‘Shadow Seer’ which is the keywords about the card in reverse.

You don’t have to read reversals, I know some people don’t but if you wanted to learn, this is a great deck to learn the reversed meanings too. I’ve noticed with some decks that the reversals tend to be short and to the point, but this booklet explains it as much as upright.

You get a more in-depth paragraph about the card which gives you an insight into the card in more detail. I really enjoy this as it gives you a bit of depth and feeling to the cards.

Finally, at the end of the page, you get a little quote which explains the card such as:

10 of Swords: I am healing every day
The Empress: I am ready to give birth to my abundantly rich future
King of Wands: Passionate and heart-fuelled, we build this empire of light together

Everything about this guide book really made feel more connected to the cards and I really appreciated just how much information is contained within the book.

It’s easy to follow, easy to read and enjoyed it very much!

Reading with The Light Seers Tarot

I have to admit, I connected with the Light Seers Tarot pretty quickly and could read with accuracy. Although I read the book a couple of times and referred to a few cards now and again, overall I felt I could read it without using the booklet too much.

I’d seem to be able to read very well, including for myself and other people.

It’s a deck that people have gravitated towards and asked me to use for readings and they were very impressed with the readings I’d provided them with.

Overall, I am overly impressed with the accuracy and ease of reading!

The issues with the deck

I’ve left this until last as although it is important to note, I didn’t want to deter from the review.

I couldn’t pretend there were no issues with this deck because I was crestfallen when I found that my deck seemed to be 2 different sizes and a lot of creasing on the cards. However, I can not fault Hay House as they replaced this right away. Even though I had purchased it on Amazon.

My replacement came and I was so happy about it, but I did keep the first as it was the first print of the deck and to me, the defects made it unusual.

I use the first release and keep the other one in pristine condition. I’m quite liking having 2 of The Light Seers Tarot decks.

The very first release was not the quality I would expect as I had several decks previously and the quality has always been fantastic. But we all have hiccups I guess!

It’s more important how they rectify the issues and rectify they certainly did! Although I had to wait for the new reprint, it was sent as soon as possible.

This hasn’t changed my opinion of Hay House, because they handled it really well and replaced with no quibble! Now that is a good company!

Final Thoughts

Overall, you really get a good quality tarot deck and a guide book that could be sold as a stand-alone book.

I’ve enjoyed both the artwork as well as the book and everything about it including the packaging is amazing.

The Light Seers Tarot is undoubtedly a fantastic tarot deck and one I do highly recommend. From quality to content, it’s worth the money!

This is certainly a tarot deck that anyone could use!
