The Muse Tarot was something that I spent some time contemplating on whether I wanted it or not but I thought, either way, having a Muse Tarot review on here would be super beneficial, so I jumped in and purchased the tarot deck! After the very popular The Light Seers Tarot,
I’d seen a lot about The Muse Tarot and I was drawn to the abstract, mismatched art of the deck which isn’t for everyone. But many seem to love this deck regardless, especially as it is bright, open and fresh. There is a sense of ‘now’ with this deck and makes you feel like it is apt for today.
So here is The Muse Tarot review and I really hope you enjoy this deck as it is certainly different and there is nothing out there like this!
The Muse Tarot Review – Walking Through An Eclectic Tarot Deck
About the deck
An abstract look to The Muse Tarot deck gives it an edge as there is nothing out there that is anything like this. It was created to be eclectic, inspiring and creative.
It’s a deck that will awake your senses and invoke your creativity, unleashing the world of tarot with a fresh outlook.
Imagery is very different from the coveted Light Seers tarot as whilst that is more cartoon-like, this one is more realistic and including both humans and animals.
There are some changes to the typical Rider Waite based system which are outlined further below in the review, but it really does make this deck stand out from others that you may have seen.
It’s multicultural, even giving you different eras like the 60s and also many different beliefs.
Packaging and quality
With all Hay House decks, the Muse Tarot is no different. It’s outstanding quality and what I like is that is made identical to The Light Seers deck which means they can be stored together much easier.
The cards are the same size as the book and fit very snugly in the box.
Now, the box is really well made, beautiful in colour and very abstract. Inside the top of the box, it says ‘There is magic in truth. There is truth in my veins. Where my blood speaks in sooth and my mind has no realms’
Inside the bottom of the box of The Muse Tarot is some abstract backgrounds and fish on the very bottom.
Then we have the booklet which I have reviewed separately below as it deserves it’s very own segment. I love a tarot deck that has a wonderful booklet/guide. It really makes the tarot deck more worthwhile in my opinion and a good starter deck for those that have not really used tarot before.
Now, the cards are a really good quality thick card that is matte and smooth so you can shuffle them with ease. They are a good size, easy enough to shuffle, even with small hands like mine. Although because the cards are thick there is some depth to the deck. Might be easier to break them up to shuffle.
I’ve used this deck a number of times and enjoyed using it and I am pleased to say, it still looks brand new. So I know I will get a lot of use out of it.
The Muse Tarot Review
I’ll be honest, at first, I wasn’t sure whether this deck would be for me so I did wait for The Muse Tarot to come on sale at Hay House and captured this, along with quite a few oracle decks I was feeling the same about.
When the deck came, I was beyond excited to give it a look through as I had seen a couple of cards online and thought it looked gorgeous.
Before I get into this, I wanted to talk about a few changes to the typical Rider Waite based deck layout and the differences with The Muse Tarot.
The suits have been changed to Cups – Emotions, Wands – Inspiration, Swords – Voices and Pentacles – Materials. If you think about it, it actually suits each suit. Cups are known to be about emotions, pentacles are about money and business.
Kings are known as Muse of ‘suit’ and then we have: Hanged man- Hanged muse, Judgement – Awakening and The World – The World Cosmos.
The cards have a more realistic interpretation and include both humans and animals within The Muse Tarot. A wide selection of different cultures here and also the styles of people. For example, my favourite card to look at is 7 of Materials which shows a woman in a dress bent over her boots and holding roses. I love the dress and boots combo.
Each suit has a certain theme to it. Materials, for example, seems to be floral, tattooed and alternative styles.
Voices is very ethereal in style, spiritual and awakening.
Emotions are very water-based, a lot of water and fish are within this suit.
Inspiration is very abstract and also includes a lot of animals.
The aesthetic really has been thought about here and the styles suit the themes of the suits. Overall, it’s an impressive tarot deck and The Muse Tarot is one I would strongly recommend for those that love something different.
No, getting into the deck and how to use it, this has no reversal meanings so I would hazard a guess that this is meant to be read as upright only. However, if you feel comfortable reading it reversed, crack on!

Review of the guide book
I tend to love a good guide book and I simply enjoy the one with The Muse Tarot as much as others I have.
Like The Light Seer’s Tarot, this is jam-packed with information about the cards as well as detailed descriptions and meanings for each card.
However, this deck is only to be read in my eyes as upright only. I could not see there were reversal meanings included with the cards.
You get several keywords for this card and then a prompt, followed by information about the card which ties in nicely with the cards and their meanings.
You also get a quote at the end with The Muse Tarot, which too fits nicely with the cards.
It’s really nice to just read the information in the guidebook and get a feel of the cards and see where things are going with it.
So, one card has as an example:
17 The Star
Keywords: Renewed hope, expectations, positivity, dreams, arriving, rewards, divine timing, opportunities, seeing the beauty in your situation.
Prompt: Optimistically collected

I chose The Star as it resonates with me as a person so I think it was really apt for this to include as a card of choice to share how the book has the cards laid out.
It’s the same for both the Major and Minor Arcana so you get a really, in-depth detail about each card which I think personally is a nice touch.
Overall, a fantastic book and a really lovely read. The quotes I personally enjoyed the most.
Reading with The Muse Tarot
Now when reading with The Muse Tarot, I found that the readings were not of a spiritual or creative connotation, wonderful for questions about creativity or should you start a new hobby. Even about answering things on your journey or path in spirituality.
I tend to use this deck when someone is asking about something to do with their spirituality or a spiritual aspect of their life. If they need guidance or want an answer to something that is to do with their creativity, even occupations or businesses.
There is something about The Muse Tarot that draws me to read it a lot, especially about myself and many love a reading from this.
Super inspiring and offers support, guidance and answers the questions you have.
Final thoughts
Overall, from the packaging to the cards, book and quality, I am really impressed.
The costs are fantastic and to be honest, I would have expected to pay more than I did for this level of quality.
So, if you are looking for something creative, abstract, beautiful and fulfilling, this deck is really for you!
